The day we hiked Mt. Cardigan we began from the west side of the mountain in Cardigan Mountain State Forest.
We did a loop up the South Ridge and Clark trails, hiked over to Firescrew and returned to the car down the West Ridge trail.
We made it to treeline pretty quick. Here is Danielle hiking out of the trees.
Up on the South Summit the wind was really whipping.
Looking across the ridge we could see the tower on the main peak.
A short time later we came across a strange rock wall built on a ledge.
We weren't really sure what the wall was for other than to keep you out of the wind.
Looking back at the South Peak we could see the trail we followed to get here.
Back into the trees we were finally able to get out of all the wind.
The old rangers cabin is all boarded up.
But we still spent a few minutes checking it out.
From the cabin it was a very steep climb up to the summit. Good thing we had traction on our boots.
Eventually, we made it over the ridge and got our first close up look of the tower.
Even though it was cloudy, there were still some views to be seen.
Another view.
More views from the summit.

After a quick break, we hiked over to Firescrew. Here's the view looking back towards Cardigan from Firescrew.
The clouds cleared a bit and we had a nice view of the White Mountains.
