(Tim & Danielle - Total Distance: 1 mile from Guyot Campsite)

|
On
the morning of July 25th, we awoke to a beautiful sunrise at the
Guyot campsite. After breakfast we packed some snacks, sweatshirts
and windbreakers for our dayhike to the Bonds. West Bond was the
first peak we bagged on our final assault on the 48 4,000
footers. Had we know how awesome the views were from this
summit we may have saved this peak for our final mountain. |

The
hike to West Bond from the campsite is just under a mile. Once
reaching the spur trail to the summit the trail follows a flat
winding path through the trees until the short and steep rocky
ascent to the actual peak. When we finally broke treeline the views
took our breath away! Nearby was the secondary
summit of West Bond. That peak does not have a trail and
luckily we were standing on the higher official peak. Off to the
south we could see the steep sides of Bondcliff,
our final destination on this day. |
Looking
toward South Twin we could clearly see the slides
that fell down the mountain in 1994. What a sight that must have
been. A little further west we had a nice view of Mt.
Garfield and in the distance the Green Mountains in Vermont.
From the summit of West Bond we continued our hike the rest of the
way to the Mt. Bond summit. |

| Later
on that day we made a return trip to West Bond so we could watch
the sunset over
the mountains. And what a spectacular sight it was. The
shadows falling into the valley were something to behold. We
watched the mountain shadows cover Bondcliff,
witnessed the coming darkness creep
up on Mt. Carrigan off in the distance and beheld
the beauty of the wilderness all around. If we are ever in this
area again we will definitely visit the West Bond summit again. |
